About the Character

Personality:

Kymon is an individual who doesn’t like to sit idle for very long. He is always up to do something, be it lightsaber sparring matches or taking his starfighter out for a spin. His favorite activity is lightsaber sparring matches, mostly because he rarely loses. In his Master’s mind, she sees lightsaber combat and sparring as a sort of meditation for Kymon.
While Kymon is nice, his ego often gets the better of him. He is one of the New Jedi Order’s most proficient lightsaber duelists, being almost naturally skilled in the Shien/Djem So Form of lightsaber combat. However, Kymon’s ego can, at times, cloud his judgment of his fellow Jedi pupils. He is also a bit of a sexist as well, believing that most of the Jedi Order’s most revered members were males. It was also this jaded opinion that caused him to lose to Solei twice in lightsaber combat. Despite this, Kymon does have a small circle of friends who look past his flaws.

Nevertheless, Kymon Raas is one of the New Jedi Order’s most hardy lightsaber duelists and it would be a mistake to underestimate him in combat.
He is known to carry emotional baggage, primarily from him having to leave his mother alone on Bespin and the impact of his father’s grisly demise.

Fear(s): Losing Solei to the Dark Side entirely, losing friends in combat

Likes: Lightsaber sparring matches and combat, learning Force techniques

Dislikes: Sitting idle, being captured, losing in lightsaber sparring matches

Habit(s): constructing and upgrading his lightsaber, studying Force techniques, learning information on past Force-sensitives, lightsaber sparring and learning new lightsaber combat forms

Flaw(s): Overconfidence (at times), underestimating opponents, sexism (fades away in time with the help of Solei’s victories over him in their duels and sparring sessions), something of a sore loser

Talent(s): Lightsaber duelist, starfighter piloting

The Character’s Relationship With Others</u>

Reputation:
In the Jedi Order, Kymon Raas is know to be one of the best lightsaber duelists of his peers. He is often seen as a brash and confident by his friends and Master. Much of his rashness had been said to stem from the death of his father and leaving his mother on Bespin. However, Kymon is seen as a great Jedi and an even greater ally to have in a conflict.
To the Empire and the Sith, Kymon is seen as a powerful foe. There are even some Sith that have told him that he could become a great Sith himself if he would embrace the Dark Side. However, his constitution was too strong for such a thing.

Love Interest(s):
Solei Levantis – knows about his feelings and reciprocates them over time.

Friend(s):
Soran Vox – A New Republic X-Wing starfighter pilot and friend of Kymon. Currently does not know that his ex-girlfriend and Kymon are dating. He is also a Force-sensitive, but does not know of it.

Master(s):
- Jedi Master Soramea (formal Jedi Master, female, 31 years old)
- Solei Levantis (informally and primarily for Form V lightsaber combat training)

Apprentice(s): None as of yet

Enemy(ies): Solei Levantis (formerly), Sith Order, Imperial Remnant

Relationship(s):
Solei Levantis – The relationship between the two Force-sensitives is a rather unorthodox one, primarily being that both Kymon and Solei come from the two opposite sides of the Force. However, they are the same in so many ways, like their mastery of Form V lightsaber combat.

The two actually met on the lava-flowing star system of Mustafar. Solei was searching for old Sith and Jedi artifacts with an Imperial expeditionary force to the old ruins of the Jedi Enclave that was long abandoned on Mustafar. After Solei had relayed the information that she found to her master, Lord Carnage, Kymon had been awaiting her at the exit outside of the Enclave. Just as Solei had arrived outside the building with her four-man group of Imperial Storm Commandos, Kymon had activated his orange lightsaber. As the duel wore on, Kymon and Solei would find that they were almost evenly matched. However whereas Kymon was talented in Form V lightsaber combat, Solei was nearly an undisputed master of the Form. Coupled with his sexism and with his frustration nearly getting the best of him, Kymon soon found that he was outmatched by Solei. At the near end of the duel, the young female Sith Warrior managed to graze him on his right shoulder with her purple lightsaber. At that moment, Solei had awaited his next move. With his shoulder wounded along with his pride, Kymon had retreated off planet. As one of the Storm Commandos prepared to open fire on the young Jedi, Solei had ordered the soldier to let him go, stating that they would meet again.

After healing his shoulder to the best of his ability, Kymon continued to grow in his lightsaber combat training, learning to use Form VI lightsaber combat and furthering his training of Form V lightsaber combat.

However in their next duel, Kymon would find that Solei wasn’t sitting idle long either. On Yavin IV, the two duelists seemed to be evenly matched once again. However during a particular moment in the duel when the ground on Yavin IV was shaking, Kymon began to show his own prowess in battle. Using Ataru when Solei stood still as the tremors began to escalate, he repeatedly attacked her until he scored a strike on her own shoulder. Unbeknownst to the young Jedi, however, Solei’s armor was made mostly from cortosis, one of the few materials known to resist lightsaber blades. However, after managing to damage the female Sith Warrior’s visor, Solei had managed to overpower the muscle-bound Jedi and cut off his left hand.

After the duel, Solei’s master, Lord Carnage, captured Kymon. He was sent to the Citadel, a prison designed during the Clone Wars to hold Force-sensitives. He was subjected to a series of attempts of torture at the hands of his captors. Despite all that was done to him, Kymon did not break. Being imprisoned for several months, his fellow Jedi compatriots made a daring rescue attempt in order to save Kymon. However, Kymon would receive help from a most unexpected ally: Solei Levantis.

Initially wary of her intentions, Kymon had questioned if she had come to kill him and his compatriots. Solei had responded, saying that if she were going to kill him, she would have done so already. After releasing him from his binds, Solei had loaned him the crimson lightsaber she had taken after killing one of her rivals as a young Sith in training. After managing to get out of the Citadel and to his Jedi comrades, Kymon had asked Solei why she helped him. Solei simply responded that he was a Jedi and he didn’t deserve to die in a cell. Kymon, however, could not help but feel that there was another reason for her saving him than the one she gave him.

The two would have several more run-ins with each other, some of them leading to a lightsaber duel. If nothing more, the lightsaber duels between Solei and Kymon would be ones in order to keep up appearances between their respective factions. However, there have been times where Solei has saved Kymon and vice-versa. Overtime, the two grew closer, despite their allegiances to their respective factions. At times when Kymon’s missions required him to go undercover, Solei helps when she can by having him act under the guise of a newly turned Dark Jedi.

At first, Solei didn’t understand why she had spared Kymon’s life in their second duel or why she helped him escape the Citadel. But after a certain encounter in which the two of them were caught by so-called bounty hunters, the two would begin to open up. Solei had told Kymon about her life growing up on Tatooine with her mother and older half-brother Tamrin. At the point where her story had hit the bitter parts (particularly the parts where she was punished by her mother for using the Force, when she had Force-choked her mother in retaliation, and when she had involuntarily screamed through the Force and killed her mother), Kymon noticed that she was still carrying that pain around with her. It was the source of her Dark Side alignment, yet at the same time; he saw that the Light Side was with her as well when she spoke of her brother and her ex-boyfriend. She wasn’t entirely a Sith, neither was she really a Jedi. As they were brought before an audience to be executed, a few of Kymon’s comrades, who infiltrated the group of Force-sensitive haters, had started their attack. In doing so, it allowed Solei and Kymon to break free of their binds and retrieve their lightsabers. After escaping, Solei had thanked Kymon for listening to her story and kissed him on the cheek. It wouldn’t be until much later on in their lives that the young female Sith would understand why she spared him.

After the fiasco with the Force-sensitive haters’ cult, Solei had begun dating Kymon.

As said before, their relationship could be described as unorthodox. Aside from their being of opposite sides of the Force, they both seem to be one thing when in another reality; they had the potential to be another (i.e. Solei being a Sith when she could be a Jedi and Kymon being a Jedi when he could have been a Sith).

Immediately on their first date, Solei had noticed that Kymon had very little experience with women. She made no effort to hide this from him, even the fact that he had somewhat sexist views on women. She had remarked that while Kymon’s sexist comments would bother most women, they don’t really bother her, primarily due to the fact that she reminds him of their little duels that they had (both of which he had lost). She even uses this little fact to embarrass Kymon at times, but only when he deserves it.

One thing Kymon found attractive about Solei was her long crimson-red hair, sometimes calling her “Blood Hair” just to make her laugh. It was often this comment that made the young female Sith smile. In return, Solei often calls him “Raas-Berry”.

Another trait of Solei is that she flirts with Kymon fervently. At times, she flirts with her body in order to entice him into using his passion so he can learn to control it. Other times, Solei flirts with Kymon using both her body and her language to entice him in “other” ways.

Kymon’s feels for her are quite mutual, but often his commitment to the Jedi Order and his friends’ personal feelings towards Solei clash with his own feelings for her. These preoccupations soon fade as Kymon and Solei spend time together. Soon, Solei begins to return the same sentiments.

After nearly half a year of secretly dating, the two had confessed each other’s feelings. Kymon at one point suggested that Solei become a Jedi. Solei had considered joining the Jedi, but she wasn’t entirely sure. The very idea had plagued her for some time. Kymon had then decided to let her find her own path and allow the Force to show her where she belonged.

The Character’s Familial/Biographical Information</u>

Birthplace: N/A

Homeworlds:

Dantooine (originally born during the Battle of Dantooine in the Yuuzhan Vong War and parents escaped with him)
Bespin (Cloud City)

Family:

Kalor Raas – Father (dead)
Maynaras Kola-Raas – Mother

Familial Background:

As a boy, Kymon was much closer to his mother than his father, who was often away working as a tibanna gas miner. His mother was often described physically to be “as young and as fit as a female Twi’lek dancer”. She was very good-natured and often stayed close to Kymon.  The untimely death of her husband Kalor had brought about some stress on her life. Nonetheless, Maynaras would continue to live on with the only memory she had of her lover: Kymon. She often loved teaching her son how to play dejarik when he became eleven years old. But when his Force powers had manifested, Maynaras knew that no matter how much she wanted Kymon to stay, it was better for him to become a Jedi. However, she would continue to miss her dear son.

Kalor often tried to be the best father he could be to Kymon, in spite of his not being there for him. Despite this, Kymon truly loved his father. Kalor was also the person that Kymon had inherited his physical strength from. Kymon would describe him to be as strong as an adult gundark and as stubborn as a rancor. The relationship between the two would often be a good one, despite Kalor’s job. However, his job would ultimately be his demise, as Kymon had found out through a vision of his father dying in a tibanna gas explosion. When he received the vision, Kymon took off as fast as he could in order to prevent it. He would be too late, however. Kalor died due to blood loss from losing his arm in the explosion.

Character Background:

In 25.2 ABY during the Yuuzhan Vong War, Kymon Raas was born to Kalor and Maynaras Raas during the Battle of Dantooine. As the peaceful planet was ravaged by the Yuuzhan Vong, Kymon and his family were but a few of the survivors of the crisis. As they left their native homeworld, the Raas family would soon settle on Bespin. Many months after, Kymon’s father would find work as a tibanna gas miner. At a young age, Kymon’s Force-sensitivity would manifest itself in the vision of Kymon’s father being the unlucky victim of a tibanna gas mine explosion. Tried as he could, Kymon could neither convince his father nor prevent the event from happening. This event would continue to live on in Kymon’s memory…

At the age of seventeen, Grand Jedi Master Luke Skywalker would come to test young Kymon for recruitment into the Jedi Order. After passing the test, Skywalker had a conversation with Kymon’s mother about how strong he is in the Force. Although she didn’t wish to let him go, Maynaras let her son go with the Jedi Master, knowing this would be better for him...
