Solei/Darth Faytoll X Kymon – Form V Lesson #1: Controlling Passion (Part 1)

Within the walls of the long abandoned Sith Academy on Korriban, the sound of lightsabers clashing echoed repeatedly. In a large room with a sparring circle, a young woman with a braid of red hair flowing down her head was dueling a young man with a very athletic build and a cybernetic hand. The blades of the two combatants’ lightsabers were of two different colors. The female’s blade was a bright hue of amethyst, while the male’s blade was a Tatooine binary sunset orange. The bright shafts of their respective lightsabers hissed and whined as they crashed and sparked together.

The female combatant was a Sith Lord by the name of Solei Levantis, now known as Darth Faytoll. She was a practiced hand in Form V lightsaber combat, which she was using against the male combatant. His name was Kymon Raas, a Jedi Guardian of the New Jedi Order. He, too, was a practiced hand at Form V lightsaber combat. However, he was not in the same area of expertise in the Form as his dear girlfriend Solei.

The Sith Lord and the Jedi Guardian had been practicing for about three hours. Both combatants were dripping sweat and breathing hard, staring at each other intensely. Solei’s face than formed a bit of a toothy smile as she saw Kymon breathing hard. The two of them engaged in a lightsaber lock, their blades hissing and crackling against the other. Tried as he would, Kymon had pushed with all his might with his own sunset sky blade. But ultimately, Solei managed to shove Kymon’s blade away with her own amethyst lightsaber blade. The young Jedi Guardian then fell back from the force of Solei’s shove. He then came forward and attacked his love with a barrage of heavy attacks, all of which Solei had withstood. He then lowered his orange blade and looked at her, breathing heavily.

“You’re breathing hard already? I’m not even warmed up.” Solei teased. She then attacked Kymon with a classic Form V move known as the Falling Avalanche, raining a heavy barrage of overhand blows towards Kymon. He had blocked the chain of heavy-handed attacks and then countered with a horizontal swing of his own orange blade. Solei had quickly countered the blow with one of her preferred Form V moves known as the Fluid Riposte. She had swiftly blocked Kymon’s strike and used an underhand parry to disarm him of his lightsaber, sending it flying out of the sparring circle. The next thing Kymon felt was an ebony black combat boot to his face, sending him staggering backwards onto his rear end. As he recovered, Kymon saw Solei’s glowing purple blade pointing in his direction. Solei’s weapon was a heavy lightsaber built for fighting and carried the appearance of a black dragon. Kymon then sighed and looked up at the young female Sith Lord with a look of embarrassment.

“I yield… again.” Kymon said, begrudgingly. His losses to Solei in combat sessions were becoming quite a habit for him. Solei sighed and then smiled.

“Kymon, this is getting stale. How is it that you can’t control your passion when you use Form V? Isn’t that something your Jedi Order should teach you?” Solei said, retracting her violet blade back into her lightsaber hilt. She then extended a hand out in the direction of where Kymon’s lightsaber had flown. Calling out with the Force, the young female Sith pulled the weapon to her hand, catching it immediately.

“Yea, well… I’m not exactly someone who just hides his emotions.” Kymon said as he rose to his feet. Solei then handed him his lightsaber back.

“I know, love. And I appreciate that. You are on your way to becoming a great Form V duelist, but you struggle with your passion. You show too much of it… even for a Jedi.” Solei said. She then undid her braid, letting her hair fall down past her shoulders to her lower back. Kymon had a half-smile on his face as Solei’s red mane flowed down her back. Before Solei could look back at him, the young Jedi Guardian had looked away. Solei had sighed happily and giggled a bit. She could sense the attraction Kymon had to her. All of the base emotions that flooded his mind… Solei could sense them all. Admiration, elation, fondness… lust. She could sense them all.

“Well… how did you become so good at Djem So then?” Kymon asked.

“Nothing that several training sessions with my old Master didn’t solve. And of course a number of assassination attempts on my life and betrayals.” Solei simply answered as she put her hair in a braid again.

“Of course…” Kymon said, sighing.

“Those and of course, I learned to temper my passion in the form with compassion. Something you will need to learn, my dear… no matter how attractive you get when you get flustered during our little sparring sessions.” Solei said as she stroked Kymon’s chin, making him smile a little. She then gave him an open-mouth kiss on lips as she held his chin, slowly pulling away and smiling. Kymon then activated his lightsaber, orange light emerging from the main emitter and at the sides of the emitter, and stepped back into the sparring circle.

“So are you up for another round?” Kymon asked, holding his weapon in a classic Djem So stance.

“Not now, hun. Besides, you’ve been here for a long time. Your Jedi friends have probably been looking for you for quite some time. And if you haven’t answered them, which may mean that they’ll send someone to look for you. Right?” Solei said, looking at him. A look of shock appeared on the young Jedi Guardian’s face when his girlfriend said that.

“You’re right! I have to go! Sorry!” Kymon said as he rushed out of the room. Clipping his lightsaber to his belt sing his cybernetic hand, the young Jedi then began running out of the Sith Academy and to his custom-made Jedi starfighter. Solei had then stepped outside of the Sith Academy to see him lift off. Folding her arms and looking at Kymon prepping his starfighter for launch, Solei had audibly cleared her throat. This managed to get his attention.

“Aren’t you forgetting something?” Solei said, tapping her armor plating as her arms were folded.

“Huh?” Kymon said, confused by the question. He then saw her right eyebrow begin to rise. Right then, the Jedi Guardian knew exactly what he was missing. Kymon then jumped out and stepped up to Solei, wrapping his arms around her. Solei then looked up at him with a smile slowly creeping on her face. She then got on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms around his neck, and slowly kissed Kymon on the lips. Her mouth was so warm and inviting to his, enjoying the long smooch that they shared. Solei had purred like a content Loth-cat as the tip of her tongue lapped at Kymon’s tongue slowly. Her hands had found themselves running all over his cheeks and chest, exploring his muscular features thoroughly.

However, as soon as the odd couple starting smooching, they found that they couldn’t stop. After about two minutes of kissing, Kymon’s holo-communicator began beeping and Solei had pulled away from him slowly, looking up in his eyes.

“You should probably get going…” Solei whispered, tapping the Jedi Guardian on his nose playfully.

“Okay, but I really don’t want to…” Kymon said smiling.

“But you have to… to be continued, Raas-berry.” Solei said, biting his earlobe and growling playfully. The two then kissed before Kymon began to get back into his starfighter. Solei waved as she saw his ship begin to rise to the sky.

The sky of Korriban was a deathly orange as the sun was beginning to set. The Dark Side ran rivers of rage and anger through the cracks of Korriban’s crust. Many Sith Lords were buried underneath its surface and even in death; their presences still linger on the planet. For most Force-sensitives, the Dark Side of the Force was strong here and it attacked the souls of those whom were weak. However for ones that are very strong in the Force like Solei and Kymon, both of whom were touched by the Dark Side already, it was their ally.

As Solei watched Kymon lift off into space, she smiled a bit and then began walking through the Valley of the Dark Lords, not too far from the abandoned Sith Academy. The smile she was wearing had soon disappeared as her feet kicked up the red sands of Korriban. Her ruby mane flowed to the left as the wind howled past her in a steady calm motion. Strangely enough the wind sounded like an agonized moan as the young Sith walked by. It gave Solei time to pause, but she soon continued to walk again after. During the time, Solei found herself in thought of how to get Kymon to temper his passion when he used it during their Form V training sessions.

“He’s a great lightsaber duelist. Aside from his strength, his specialty in Form V rivals even my own. But still, Kymon fights with too much passion, almost to the point where he practically stumbles over it. He nearly dropped his weapon when we were dueling.” Solei thought. She had giggled a bit when she remembered how Kymon had almost dropped his own lightsaber when they were sparring. She continued to walk the red sandy surface with her red hair flowing like a river in the wind.

It amazed the young female Sith Lord to think that she was in love with a Jedi… the very kind of people that she was taught by her late master to despise. However, to Solei, she really never harbored any hatred toward the Jedi… except the very sanctimonious ones, that is. For her, Kymon was different from most Jedi. He possessed a lot of passion whenever they sparred in lightsaber combat and physical combat. His strikes were hard, but uncoordinated. They had the overwhelming power worthy of a Form V practitioner like herself, but they were still only that. The moves Kymon used were also overly aggressive at times. He could have destroyed Solei’s lightsaber had it not been constructed with outer protective metal made from cortosis. It was at this moment that Solei had begun to remember a certain line in the ancient Code of the Sith Order that her late master often stressed:

“Through passion, I gain strength.”

“Passion is a strength for Kymon. He gains strength from it. But if he allows his passion to take control of him… will he turn to the Dark Side?” Solei thought to herself. She then stopped in her tracks, looking out at the sunset in the distance.

“Perhaps he has too much passion…” Solei thought. Then slowly, within her Sith state of mind, the young Sith Lord began to calculate a plan to help her dear boyfriend become a better Form V duelist. She had something of a devilish grin on her face as she began to devise a very seductive scheme that has been swimming around in her thoughts. Solei then pulled out a small holo-communicator and began contacting her personal Imperial shuttle.

“Hundred-Two, this is Darth Faytoll. Come in.” Solei said. Suddenly a bright beam of blue light took the form of a small skeletal bodyguard droid. It was also holding an inactive lightsaber pike in its right hand. He was IG-102, now dubbed “Hundred-Two” by Darth Faytoll. Formerly one of many defunct IG-series bodyguard droids for the infamous General Grievous, Hundred-Two’s parts were found by Solei Levantis and she had reconstructed the droid. It now serves at her whim, although she doesn’t give the automaton much else to do aside from its primary function and, at times, piloting. It was also programmed to fight Jedi and rival Sith that sought to assassinate Faytoll. She even outfitted Hundred-Two with a cortosis outer shelling, making it resistant to blaster bolts and lightsaber strikes.

“What is your order, milady?” Hundred-Two said. The droid’s vocabulator made a low growl whenever it spoke Basic or any other language.

“Prepare the shuttle for launch. We’re done here.” Solei said, looking down at Hundred-Two on her holo-communicator.

“At once, milady.” Hundred-Two said. Solei’s holo-communicator then powered down with Hundred-Two’s image disappearing. The young Sith Lord then began to walk out to the section of the Valley of the Dark Lords where her Imperial Lambda-class T-4a shuttle was stationed. As she approached, Hundred-Two came out from the ship and stood at attention with his lightsaber pike held across its chest. Its photoreceptors were a bright crimson shade along with his droid chassis. The droid’s durasteel plating had an outward midnight black appearance, clear evidence of its Master outfitting the automaton with a cortosis coating.

“Your shuttle is ready, milady.” Hundred-Two said.

“Thank you, Hundred-Two. We’re heading back to…” Solei began to say. Before she could continue her sentence and get on the ship, a small sensation in the Force caught Solei’s attention. Solei then put her hand in the air at head-height, signaling to her droid that she was sensing something. In one swift motion, Solei had grabbed hold of her lightsaber. The minute it flew in her hand, the amethyst blade erupted from the hilt’s emitter with a bestial growl that could be considered the equivalent of a dragon’s roar.

“Hiya!” Solei exclaimed as she swung her purple lightsaber to her right side, cutting something that didn’t seem like it was there at first. The violet plasma shaft made a high-pitched buzz-hiss sound as it cut whatever was there. After Solei struck the object, there was a loud growl followed by a thud.

“So that’s where you were hiding…” Solei said, seeing the cloaked object reveal itself. It was a large reptilian dragon-like creature native to Korriban called a Hssiss. They were large reptiles born from the Dark Side of the Force. Also known as “dark side dragons”, the Hssiss dragons were granted the ability to cloak themselves with the Force, becoming invisible to the naked eye. They also possessed a venomous bite that would corrupt any unfortunate soul with the Dark Side of the Force. The manner in which Solei had killed the creature was in a swift decapitation. Both the head and the body of the Hssiss were smoking lightly from the cauterization of the Sith Lord’s orchid blade, the ends glowing orange-hot.

Upon seeing this, Hundred-Two had activated his lightsaber pike, the short crimson blade emerging with a snap-hiss sound. The droid then took a defensive stance with the short red shaft pointing outward and looked around, its servomotors whirring. Solei had then signaled for Hundred-Two to stay his weapon with her hand, making a horizontal waving motion. Soon after, about four more Hssiss had revealed themselves from their invisibility. A few of them were hissing and flicking their tongues in the direction of Solei and Hundred-Two. Solei then began to step towards the dark side dragons with her lightsaber humming at her right side. She then extended her left arm outward, reaching out to the Hssiss with the Force.

As she did so, the dragons had all looked at her attentively. Their yellow eyes were even wider and their hisses were longer. It was almost as if they were under her control.

“You will have to find your nutrition elsewhere… I suggest you look in the Shyrack Cave.” Solei said in a deep and assertive tone of voice. She then pointed in the direction that the Shyrack Cave was in, not very far from the Valley of the Dark Lords. The reptiles then looked in the direction of where Solei was pointing. They all then looked to each other, hissing and flicking their tongues. All of a sudden as the lizards turned around, they turned invisible right before Solei’s eyes. The only thing was that the Hssiss left behind was footprints as they stealthily left. Solei smirked a bit and then turned to Hundred-Two. She then looked to the disembodied head of the slain Hssiss for a moment. The young Sith Lord then picked up the head and turned to Hundred-Two.

“A pity to kill an animal so powerful. Shall we go?” Solei asked her bodyguard droid as she walked towards the loading ramp of the shuttle, carrying the dragon’s head.

“Yes, milady.” Hundred-Two said, nodding his dark cranium in agreement. He then deactivated his lightsaber pike and followed his master into the Imperial shuttle. As soon as the two got inside, the loading ramp had slid back into the ship’s hull. Solei then sat down at the front of the shuttle, prepping the engines for takeoff. The engines began priming and then finally, Hundred-Two came to sit in the seat next to his master. The shuttle then began to rise with the wings folding down. The droid then turned to Solei.

“Where is our next destination, milady?” The droid uttered.

“To Kamino. Need to make inspect that the clone templates for my Storm Commandoes are up and running.” The young Sith Lord said. She had a rather pensive look on her face, stroking her chin with an armored left hand as the shuttle left Korriban’s atmosphere. She then smiled as the ship then headed into the star-spangled darkness of space.

“Placing in coordinates. Prepare for lightspeed.” Hundred-Two said. After doing so, the hyperdrive of the Imperial shuttle had begun to hum. Soon enough, the stars in the front viewport turned into blurs of blue-white light and the ship had zoomed off into the stars.

3 WEEKS LATER…

Within the Jedi Academy of the peaceful star system of Ossus, Kymon was keeping himself busy by sparring with one of his “student siblings”. The other student was a seventeen year-old female Rutian Twi’lek by the name of Kinsa Kwi’teksa. The young Twi’lek was apprenticed to Kymon’s own Jedi Master Soramea, though Kymon was three years Kinsa’s senior. The two young Jedi were in the middle of a sparring session as their Master came in to see them.

Kinsa’s own lightsaber glowed a colorful jade green as it continuously clashed with Kymon’s sunset orange lightsaber blade. Her Shii-Cho moevements were constantly being blocked and parried by Kymon’s Djem So counterattacks and blocks. Needless to say, the young Jedi Guardian was completely outclassing the young Jedi Padawan. It was finally put to an end when Kymon managed to disarm Kinsa of her weapon by catching it in a blade lock and twirling her blade with his own. Both of the sparring combatants were breathing hard and staring at each other with Kymon’s tangerine blade pointed at her. The Padawan exhaled sharply in defeat, hanging her head down. She then looked up at Kymon, her face aglow in orange from his blade.

“You win… again.” Kinsa said begrudgingly. Kymon then sheathed his weapon away, the blade retracting back into his hilt with a hiss-snap sound. He then extended his hand, using the Force to pull the Twi’lek’s lightsaber to his hand.

“Don’t be frustrated, Kinsa. You’ll be a great lightsaber duelist someday. Maybe not as good as me, but you will become a great one.” Kymon said. Kinsa sighed gruffly and shot the Jedi Guardian a most indignant look. It greatly annoyed her about how much Kymon could be so full of himself. However, Kinsa was not the first person to become a victim of his ego. As the two looked at each other, Jedi Master Soramea had clapped after witnessing the sparring match. Kymon and Kinsa then turned in her direction to see her smiling. Her two students then bowed to her in respect and she did the same.

Soramea was a beautiful Echani female Jedi Master. Her white skin was as pure as Hoth’s own snow. The same can be said for her long head of hair. Her eyes were a calming cyan shade of blue. She was also of average female height when put next to Kymon.

“Well done, Kymon. Keep it up and you might just be a match for Kyle Katarn for the title of Jedi Battlemaster. You still seem to stumble over your passion with Form V, though.” Soramea said with a small smile. Kymon smiled proudly after she spoke. The Echani Jedi Master then turned to the young Twi’lek.

“And you are progressing well, Kinsa. You’ll be one of the Order’s finest duelists one day. But if you’ll excuse Kymon and myself for a brief moment…” Soramea said in a calm tone. Her voice was always compared to that of the singing of the songbirds native to Naboo. Putting her hand on Kymon’s shoulder, the two of them turned and walked out of the training room.

“Yes, Master.” Kinsa said, bowing as Soramea left the sparring room with the young Jedi Guardian. The young Twi’lek then began to activate one of the lightsaber combat training droids and began sparring with it, her viridian blade igniting and clashing with the droid’s own built-in yellow bladed lightsaber.

As they walked, Master Soramea began to lecture Kymon on his rashness when in combat, as she always did in the three years she had known Kymon. He was her second apprentice, but Soramea had always considered Kymon to be one of her greatest apprentices. However, she was always aware of Kymon’s aggression brought out in his mastery of Form V lightsaber combat.

“While I do applaud your prowess in combat, must you be so passionate about it? Remember to be mindful of your feelings. And also, do not underestimate your opponent. I’m sure I don’t need to remind you of what happened last time you underestimated the female Sith apprentice who took your hand…” The Echani Master said. To Kymon, Soramea often had a way of teaching him lessons that came off as motherly doting.

“Yes, I know.” Kymon exhaled in a condescending tone.

Kymon had been Soramea’s pupil for about three years and the two always had a great bond between each other. They have also saved each other many times in those three years. While Soramea was one of the Order’s best lightsaber duelists, she had always considered Kymon to be her superior in lightsaber dueling. Being an Echani, fighting was something of an art form for the Jedi Master. To her people, combat was not simply just self-defense, but also a means of artistic expression and communication. Whenever she had sparred with Kymon, the Echani Jedi Master could tell that there was a certain aggressiveness in his movements with Form V combat which also masked a great sadness that she could not find the root of, even with the Force. It was almost as though Kymon was protecting something, nearly to the point of killing whomever was trying to take whatever or whomever it was from him.

“Anyway, I see that you are so busy fighting my new Padawan that you didn’t know that you received a personal holo-message.” Soramea said, pulling out the holo-communicator containing the message. Kymon’s eyebrows had risen as took the device.

“You didn’t look at it, did you?” Kymon asked. His Master then got one of those sarcastic looks in her eyes and placed her hands on her hips looking up at her former Apprentice.

“Yes, Kymon. I looked at a personal message only to give it to you later and tell you it was personal.” Soramea said in a sarcastic tone. Kymon had relented after hearing her talk like that.

“Alright, alright… Sorry. And thanks.” He replied, smiling at her. Soramea had returned the gesture in kind as Kymon walked away, but it slowly returned to the pensive look she often had whenever she looked upon the young Jedi Guardian.

As Kymon retreated to his personal quarters within the Ossus Academy dormitories, he had put his Crossguard lightsaber on the desk next to his bed. Kymon then sat down and pressed the button on the holo-communicator to play the message. From the device shot up a holo-image of Solei in her Sith armor, speaking to Kymon.

“This message is intended for Kymon Raas. Kymon, I think I may have found incriminating evidence of an Imperial plot to strike at the heart of your New Republic. Meet me on Nar Shaddaa and come alone.”

The glowing blue holo-image of the young Sith Lord had then disappeared in a flash of cyan light. Kymon had a look of surprise on his face after hearing the message. The expression then changed to a more pensive look. Within his mind, Kymon was playing a moral tug-of-war game with his Jedi morals and his immediate feelings for the Sith Lord he has grown to know. As he sat in his chair with his fingers tented, the young Jedi Guardian’s thoughts seemed to have voices of their own as he thought about what Solei had to say.

“She is a Sith. You cannot trust her. This could be a trap.” One of his thoughts seemed to say to him.

“And yet, she may be carrying important plans that could be incriminating to the Imperial Remnant.” Another thought spoke. On and on Kymon’s thoughts continued, plaguing the corners of his mind. One side was saying to not trust Solei, his girlfriend who also happened to be a Sith Lord… and the one who took his hand. However, the other side of his mind told him that he should trust in her and that duel was all in the past… that there was good in her and he was helping her bring it out. For the first time in his life, Kymon was in doubt on what to do.

Most problems that Kymon tried to solve were almost always done with his lightsaber. But his weapon, depending on what would happen should he go to the Smuggler’s Moon to meet her, probably could not solve this particular problem. It was at this moment that the young Jedi Guardian had remembered something that Master Soramea had often told him whenever he was in doubt. Four simple words for any Jedi: “Trust in the Force. The Force will guide you.” As he stood up, Kymon then grabbed his lightsaber from his table and headed out to find his Master.

“Well… I suppose I could go and see if this intel on the Imperial plot was true.” Kymon sighed half-heartedly. For his sake and the Republic’s sake, he hoped that there was going to be an attack on Coruscant…
